This is, I think the most competitive bracket in my collection. If you have been (following along) you know that I've narrowed down all of the 3000 songs I have burned onto my lifedrive to the 64 I love most, and am now having them battle head-to-head to get to a top 16.
The first bracket, Singers/Songwriters was announced here: http://davidwclary.com/-the-best-music-i-own-the-singerssongwriters-bracket.aspx.
Today we look at the top 16 rock songs I've got, and surprisingly (to me) we've got contenders from each of the last five decades --- fifty years of rock and roll. For this reason, some of the older artists god higher seeding, specifically because their music has outlasted and surpassed literally thousands of contenders. You're going to find guitar rock, technopop, punk, girl rock, skater rock, and stadium rock in here. A little bit of everything.
The head-to-head matchups are really going to break my heart here. I can't stand to see any of these songs not make it to the next round. But what that truly means is that the songs that do make it out of these brackets will be truly amazing songs that make you rock out every single time they're played.
As always, I am ashamed of the number of CDs that I used to own that I never got burned to this drive, and thus cannot compete for the honor. There are a ton more U2 songs that could have made this list, the Doors, Dire Straits, Midnight Oil... Too many to mention. The songs below are the best of what's left.
Each matchup in round one is listed below. Next week I will report the results of this first round's matchup.
Here's the bracket:
||Back in the USSR
||One Step Closer
||Drip Drip Drip
||A Victory of Love
||In the End
||Pride in the Name of Love
||Seven Seas of Rhye
